Embraer E Jet Family
The Embraer E Jet family of aircraft which include the; ERJ (Embraer Regional Jet) 170, ERJ 175, ERJ 190 and ERJ 195, are designed as regional jet airliners. Their smaller size and smaller quieter engines mean they are ideal for flying between smaller regional airfields where traffic volumes are lower and runways are shorter. However, they are not just consigned to country regions as this might indicate. The quietness of their engines means they are ideal for operating into metropolitan airfields such as London City Airport where noise abatement and curfew restrictions apply.
With the introduction of the ERJ 170 and ERJ 175 aircraft (see our history page), Embraer was continuing to strengthen it presence in the Regional Jet niche market where its main competition comes from Canadian plane maker, Bombardier. However, with the addition of the ERJ 190 and ERJ 195 aircraft to this family, Embraer is now making a foray into the mainline airliner market. These two additional aircraft types are now competing with the Boeing 737 600 and the Airbus A318 airliners.
Embraer E Jet Additional Options
For each of the ERJ variants there are additional options for airline customers depending on the routes to which they want to apply the airliner. Each variant comes in a standard version but in addition they can also be optioned as an LR – Long Range option, or an AR – Advanced Range option. The LR version gives additional range as one would expect with the same payload specs as the standard version. The AR on the other hand gives the extended range but in addition it is also strengthened to enable it to carry more payload over that extended range. This allows for higher takeoff and landing weights. Standard aircraft versions can be retro fitted to up-spec them to either the LR or AR versions.
Embraer E Jet E2 Family
At the Paris airshow of 2013, Embraer launched the E Jet E2 family of aircraft which would succeed the current E Jet family, with the first delivery of the E2 scheduled for 2018. The E2 series will include the ERJ 175 E2, the ERJ 190 E2 and the ERJ 195 E2. These new aircraft will feature updated wings and Pratt & Whitney’s PW1000G Geared Turbofan engines. Passenger capacity will be increased for the ERJ 175 E2 by one row of seats and the ERJ 195 E2 by 3 rows while the ERJ 190 E2 will remain the same as the current ERJ 190 model.
The accent is on economy with a redesigned wing and the PW1000G engine being integral to this.
The release schedule is slated for the ERJ 190 E2 being delivered in the first half of 2018, the ERJ 195 E2 in 2019 and the ERJ 175 E2 in 2020.
